STEP Camp registration process
You can view the available STEP Camps here, registration will open Monday, June 1st.
To register for STEP Camps, students must be enrolled as a full-time PPS student in the upcoming 2020-2021 school year to register, and a $10 non-refundable registration fee will be charged per camp. In order to make STEP camps available to as many PPS students as possible, registration is limited to one STEP camp per student from June 1 - June 15, after which PPS students are welcome to register for additional STEP camps if seats remain.
UPDATE May 18, 2020 - Portage Public Schools (PPS) is committed to following the State of Michigan’s Safe Start Plan, which has 6 stages of reopening:(1) Uncontrolled Growth, (2) Persistent Spread (3) Flattening (4) Improving (5) Containing and (6) Post Pandemic. Experts say we are currently at Stage 3.
We are using the plan to guide our decision making regarding summer programming for PPS’s Enrichment program, summer camps and community use. It is with that guidance that we have come to the decision to suspend all community programs and use for the summer of 2020. As disappointing as this is, safety must be the first consideration, as well as compliance with State guidelines. We will be able to offer a limited number of virtual experiences for PPS students only through the Portage Education Foundation Summer Technology Enrichment Program(STEP). Registration for those programs opens on Monday, June 1st. Visit www.ppscommed.org for programs and latest details.
We are constantly monitoring and re-assessing the situation as we move forward. We understand that progress toward the higher stages of the plan is fluid and there is no set time period for each phase. Therefore we will remain as flexible as possible. Should we reach Stage 5-Containing, we will reconsider in-person camps and programs with health and safety guidelines from state health officials. Should we not make progress as quickly as we all hope, we may suspend in-person Enrichment programs into the fall.
In addition to keeping our participants and providers safe, this decision will allow us to continue to focus on our primary objective of delivering a quality education to the students of Portage Public Schools. We continue to work diligently on developing the best options possible based on whichever stage the State may be facing when it is time for school to resume for the fall.
